Sleep-wake rhythm disturbances

People with a sleep-wake rhythm disorder are unable to fall asleep or get up at the desired times, often feel sleepy during waking phases or even fall asleep involuntarily. This greatly reduces the quality of life of those affected.

Shiftwork

In shiftwork, there is a frequent change of bedtime depending on the shift. Because our internal clock cannot always be changed very easily and quickly, health consequences can occur. Affected people suffer from pronounced drowsiness during working hours, insomnia during bedtime, cognitive problems (e. g. increasing forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating), physical exhaustion, reduced performance, gastrointestinal and/or cardiovascular diseases. Of relevance is the increased risk of accidents at work and in road traffic.
